Vision Service Plan or VSP is not a traditional health insurance plan but a discount plan for routine eye exams, glasses and contact lenses. Regular health insurance plans protect you against financial losses due to unexpected eye injuries or disease. Vision insurance, on the other hand, is a wellness benefit designed to provide routine eye care prescription eyewear and other vision-related services at a reduced cost. If you have a medical diagnosis such as cataracts, diabetes or dry eye, your vision insurance will not cover the exam and your medical insurance will be billed. However, you will still be able to use your benefits for glasses and contacts
